Counseling Settings
What therapy setting works best for you?
There are many different places psychologists, therapists, and counselors can work in. Depending on your specific interests, niches, or population you want to work with, you can find different counseling settings that will be better for you. Here are three different counseling settings that you can work in; of course, there are many more, but these are just a few to start your counseling journey.
Private Practice
This environment was the first counseling setting that caught my eye and the one that most therapists gravitate towards. Therapists that work in private practice work in an office or their own home to visit clients. They meet weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly with their clients, depending on their needs. Therapists who work in private practice usually benefit from being able to make their schedules. They help their clients cope with complex thoughts, feelings, and behaviors they are experiencing through clinical interviews. A therapist who works in private practice usually must recruit their clients, making it more difficult than other counseling settings. It does have the perk of less supervision, though, and creating your pricing and focusing more on specific niches like teens or creative therapies.
